Chickasaw County based Facebook group attempting to gather donations for derecho storm victims - KCHA News

After the realization set in, and the Mayor of Cedar Rapids dubbed the derecho that hit central Iowa as worse than the 2008 flood, Iowans began to do what they could.

For those in the Floyd County Area, the Charles City Rotary Club is asking for item donations to be collected at the Charles City Hy-Vee parking lot on Thursday from noon to 8 p.m.

And for those in Chickasaw County, a similar donation ask is happening. A member of the ‘Random Acts of Kindness of Chickasaw County’ Facebook group Norma Leach posted this:

“Random Acts of Kindness-Chickasaw County would like to work with whomever wants to participate or team with us. We want to do something to help the people in the counties affected by the Derecho storm this last Monday. Please comment or send a PM message. PRAY FOR THESE IOWA COUNTIES & KEEP THEM IN YOUR THOUGHTS!!

Appropriate & helpful comments only PLEASE!!”

Both groups are asking for essentials and, if possible, cash donations:

The New York Times created a comprehensive list on how to help the victims of the storm: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/08/18/us/how-to-help-derecho-iowa.html
