RYE — Summer House Furnishings is donating 100% of the proceeds of locally made face masks sold in their Rye store to Gather.
The stylish masks are very popular and are made with a variety of eclectic fabrics hand sewn by Chris Morgan of Portsmouth. When she learned that Summer House intended to donate the profits to the nonprofit organization Gather, Morgan provided the masks for free. Masks are $10 and all future sales will be donated to Gather while supplies last. Owner Stephanie Saltonstall says $1,000 has been raised so far: "It’s been an exceptionally challenging time for retail businesses but an even harder time for many families who are not able to make ends meet. We felt that supporting Gather, an organization that is vital to addressing hunger in our own community, was one way for our small business to pitch in."
Gather has been serving Seacoast residents facing hunger for 200 years. Board Chair Scott McKee says, "The needs on the Seacoast right now are very real and urgent. We welcome contributions of any size because every bit makes a difference in the lives of those who can’t afford food right now. We are especially concerned with the number of children who are going hungry as a result of the pandemic. A big thanks to Summer House for their effort."
According to McKee, Gather serves over 3,000 people in its pantry market in Portsmouth, and several thousand more throughout the greater Seacoast with the Meals 4 Kids and Mobile Market distributions. Meals 4 Kids alone is reaching 700 plus kids every week, replacing the free/reduced meals each child misses when schools are not in session. More information is available at Gathernh.org.
