On Monday, Feeding America and Food Banks Canada both revealed that Ryan Reynolds, 44, and Blake Lively, 33, pledged $500,000 to each organization in support of their COVID-19 response funds.

This is the second time the married couple have donated. The two actors had donated $500,000 to both of these organizations when the coronavirus pandemic began in early last year.

In early 2020, Reynolds posted messages on several social media platforms saying, “Covid-19 has brutally impacted older adults and low income families. Blake and I are donating $1 million to be split between FEEDING AMERICA and FOOD BANKS CANADA.”

“If you can give, these orgs need our help,” he continued. “Take care of your bodies and hearts. Leave room for joy. Call someone who’s isolated and might need connection.”

Monday, in a statement released by Feeding America, Reynolds and Lively said, “We know the struggles so many of our neighbors faced last year are not over, and we are grateful for the opportunity to help facilitate the important work of food banks across the US and Canada to be able to provide nourishing meals to people in need.”

Food Banks Canada also expressed their gratitude for the recent donation saying because the two stars donated, it helped kickstart its COVID-19 response funds.

The organization also said, “It was an act that inspired so many Canadians to donate to their local food banks and show their support to their neighbours during these critical times.” They ended their tweet by saying “You continue to be not only our favourite Canadian, but also our favourite superhero (sorry, Hugh Jackman).”

The “Deadpool” star couldn’t resist with a witty response later that day:

It is well-known that Reynolds and actor Hugh Jackman have an ongoing gag in the way of a fake feud going back many years and Food Banks Canada couldn’t help stoking the comedic fire.

According to data from Feeding America:

“The projected number of food insecure people in 2020 is 50.4 million people, including 17 million children. That is more than 13 million more people suffering from food insecurity now than in 2018.”

In its own post on Monday, Feeding America thanked the two stars “for being our hunger-fighting dream team:”
