Douglas Emhoff, the husband of vice-presidential candidate Kamala Harris, stopped by Penn State Wednesday to campaign on behalf of the Biden-Harris ticket.
Emhoff drew a crowd of around 50 students, community members, and politicians near Medlar Field. Everyone wore a mask and chairs were placed a few feet apart to accommodate social distancing requirements.
Before Emhoff took the stage, folks mingled in the crowd, discussing the election and Penn State football’s loss to Indiana. Campaign volunteers handed out signs and other Biden-Harris merchandise.
A hazy, foliage-covered Mount Nittany served as a moody backdrop for the event. A fall-themed stage design (pumpkins and all!) made for a nice-looking impromptu podium area.
Emhoff finally arrived via motorcade around 3:30 p.m., flaunting a Penn State mask and flanked by Secret Service.
Pennsylvania state representative Scott Conklin, Democratic congressional candidate Lee Griffin, and Penn State College Democrats President Jacob Klipstein all introduced Emhoff to the stage.
Emhoff spoke about the coronavirus pandemic, the importance of voting, and even Penn State football.
When Emhoff finished speaking, folks made their way towards Beaver Stadium, back to their cars or campus. Some stopped by a small merchandise table to pick up pins, stickers, and campaign signs.
