Top-ranked Somerville was idle this past weekend and the next nine teams all won, so there was no movement in the top two thirds of the Big Central Conference Top 15. The same is true of the top six in the Groups 1 and 2 rankings.
But there was enough interesting activity in the lower portions of both rankings to bring in two new teams to the fold, Linden in the Top 15 and St. Thomas Aquinas among the smaller schools.
Linden, which was only 1-4 last year, improved to 3-0 Friday night with a surprising, 20-14 upset over No. 13 Westfield. The Tigers built a 20-0 lead in the first quarter behind the electrifying running of sophomore quarterback Tequan Thomas, and held off the Blue Devils later in the game with timely defensive play.
St. Thomas (4-0) preserved its unscored upon status after four gams by blanking Johnson, 46-0. Quarterback Jaden Young, running back Sherrod Hudson and receiver Jon Wyatt led the way for the Trojans.
