The NAACP's Legal Defense Fund (LDF) announced via tweet Monday that Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds would match donations up to $1 million as part of a "Democracy Building Challenge."
The funds are to be split between the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and the NAACP LDF, and donations will be matched through Oct. 8, the tweet said.

The ACLU also tweeted about the partnership.

In 2019, Lively and Reynolds made a $1 million donation to the LDF to help migrant children who were separated from their families, and, in 2020, they again donated to the organization in the wake of George Floyd's murder.
The celebrity couple has previously made charitable matching donations to other causes including fighting hunger and helping homeless, trafficked young people.
They were criticized last summer for holding their wedding at a former plantation in South Carolina and said they will “always be deeply and unreservedly sorry” for the decision.
The LDF's website to submit donations says that matches will be made up to $500,000, though it's possible this is taking into account the 50-50 split with the ACLU. The Hill has reached out to the NAACP LDF for more information.
