Oswego County, N.Y. — Family and friends this week are gathering to remember two teens who were electrocuted when they stepped on live wires after a crash in Oswego County on a stormy night.

Calling hours are today for Matthew “Matt” Bice, 17, of Albion from 4 to 7 p.m. A service is planned in October.

Calling hours and a funeral were held earlier this week for Madysen “Mady” Young, 17 of Sandy Creek.

On Aug. 31, Madysen was driving a pickup with Matthew and two other teens as passengers when the truck hit a tree downed by a storm and ended up in a ditch on Route 17 in Redfield. Madysen and Matthew were killed when they contacted wires downed by the tree. The two other teens escaped injury.

Madysen was remembered in her obituary for her love of barrel riding, snowmobiling and ATV riding.

She “never met a stranger and was known to always lend a hand or a ride,” the obituary said. She also didn’t let her diagnosis of pediatric diabetes stop her from taking on life with positivity, humor and determination, it said.

Friends and others told Syracuse.com | The Post-Standard that she always had a big smile and was a versatile horse rider and competitor. She was entering her senior year at Sandy Creek High School.

Matthew was remembered in his obituary for his love for hockey, spending time with family and friends and his truck, who he named Americana. It described him as a beautiful soul and a gentle giant who was loved by everyone.

A hockey player since he was 3 years old, wearing number 55, Matt was gearing up to play his final season for the Salmon River Storm, his obituary said.

Friends and one of his coaches told Syracuse.com that he was an easy-going and supportive hockey teammate who hardly got in trouble.

He graduated Pulaski High School in June and was employed at Dash’s Wigwam, his obituary said. He recently began working for a local contracting business as well.

The calling hours for Matthew are until 7 p.m. today are at the Summerville Funeral Home in Sandy Creek. A celebration of his life will be held at 1 p.m. Oct. 15 at 845 County Route 48 in Richland.
