CHAGRIN FALLS, OHIO -- Enjoy the suspense and seduction of Bram Stoker’s classic Dracula 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays Sept. 16 through Oct. 1 and 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, as Chagrin Valley Little Theatre brings it onstage and transports you to Transylvania and the heart of Victorian London.

Steven Dietz’s play takes audiences on a bloody thrill ride as Count Dracula, played by Will Mortensen, tries to exert his will on Kevin Jones as Dr. Van Helsing, Jackson Coughlin as Renfield, and others as they piece together clues to save themselves from a hideous fate.

Directed by Mason Stewart, the production also includes Mayim Hamblen, Dan Bednar, Grace Feidt, Christopher Wuehler, Hannah Elwood and Amanda Nyx.

The play is presented at the Main Stage Theatre, 40 River St. in Chagrin Falls. For ticket information contact cvlt.org or 440-247-8955 1-6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.

Meet some real spirits: The Chagrin Falls Historical Society is holding its fifth annual “Spirits Alive!” tour of Evergreen Cemetery at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct 15 and Sunday, Oct. 16. Participants will be guided to five graves and will meet six “spirits” who will tell you their story. This year, you will learn about some well-known Chagrin residents, such as Dr. George Cameron, and 1920 murder victim Miriam Stern.

Evergreen Hill Cemetery is the second cemetery established in Chagrin Falls. The first burial in the cemetery took place in 1863, although some families moved graves of loved ones from Grove Hill Cemetery to the Evergreen Hill location. Grove Hill Cemetery was active until 1869.

Admission is $15, which includes the tour and light refreshments. Sponsored by Murphy Funeral Home, the event is held rain or shine. A reservation is required. Contact chagrinhistory.org or 440-247-4695.

How did your ancestors live? Join the Northeast Ohio Computer-aided Genealogy Society 9:45 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10 via Zoom to find out. Speaker Linda Debe will present “Google My Maps, Visualizing Your Ancestors’ Lives.” The group’s monthly meeting opens at 9:15 a.m. and the speaker follows. Meetings are open to the public and visitors are welcome. Members are from Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga, Summit and Ashtabula counties.Contact webmaster@neocag.net.

Find treasure in someone’s yard: It’s okay to snoop through your neighbor’s stuff during the annual village-wide yard sale 9 a.m. to 5p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24 in Chagrin Falls. Visitors are welcome to shop, dine and stroll historic Chagrin Falls. Residents wanting to sell their goods do not need a yard sale permit on that day. Parking is available in municipal parking lots and on residential streets as marked.

Net a butterfly: Grab a net and see what you can catch 12:30 – 4 p.m. Sunday Sept. 11 at Frohring Meadows park in Bainbridge Township during a monarchs and meadow insects event. A variety of butterflies, grasshoppers, praying mantis, katydids, beetles and other insects await. If you catch a monarch butterfly a naturalist will tag it and release it. You will be notified if it is later recovered in Mexico after migrating.

The program will be repeated at the same time on Sunday, Sept. 18 at Orchard Hills Park in Chester Township.

Registration is not required. Wear sun protection, shoes, socks, hats and long pants for walking through the meadow. Contact geaugaparkdistrict.org or 440-286-9516.

A big Deihl art show: Admirers of the 62-foot-long mural on the side of the Valley Art Center building can view 60 more works by the artist, Charles “Bud” Deihl in a retrospective exhibition opening 6-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9. Deihl is an artist, painter, sculptor, educator and long-time VAC instructor. There will also be a gallery talk with him 6 p.m. Sept. 22. The center is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. It is located at 155 Bell St. in Chagrin Falls. Contact valleyartcenter.org or 440-247-7507.

Ukraine war and Jewish people: Attend a Zoom presentation 7:30 p.m. Sept. 14 on the war in Ukraine and the fate of its Jewish community. Professor David Fishman of the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York City will discuss how the Jewish community has fared in Ukraine and its prospects for the future. Fishman is also the director of Project Judaica, JTS’s program in Ukraine based in the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy University.

The presentation is free and open to the community. Co-sponsors include B’nai Jeshurun, Park Synagogue, Congregation Tifereth Israel of Columbus and Congregation B’nai Israel of Toledo. Register to attend at parksynagogue.org or 216-371-2244, ext. 122.
