Esko's slice of Trump 'pie': People gather on I-35 overpass to show support for president - Duluth News Tribune

A little more than 10 people gathered Monday, Nov. 2, on the Thomson Road overpass on Interstate 35 in a last effort to show enthusiasm and support for President Donald Trump on the eve of the 2020 election.

There was a cacophony of sound as cars honked their horns — including one that played the Southern standard “Dixie” — to show their support in the waning moments of a contentious election. A boombox played country music and patriotic songs as the cars passed beneath the spectacle.

"This is just an energetic festivity and display of Trump enthusiasm,” one woman said. “We’re just one little slice of the pie and they create the whole picture of support.”

The woman, who declined to give her name out of fear of retaliation by “radicals,” said similar demonstrations of support with “thousands” of supporters were going on across Minnesota Monday night. She said Trump supporters were gathering on the Highway 33 overpass in Cloquet, as well as in Duluth and Two Harbors.

Others at the demonstration, who also declined to be named, said they were confident of a Trump victory at the polls on Election Day.

About a mile north of the Thomson Road overpass, a similarly sized group of supporters of former Vice President Joe Biden gathered on the Jay Cooke Road overpass in a display of enthusiasm for their preferred candidate.
