Approximately three dozen members of Newtown Congregational Church gathered on the gentle slope to the south of the church building for worship on May 16.
It was the first Sunday morning worship service for the church in 14 months, after the church stopped in-person events last spring due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Parishioners of all ages spaced themselves on the hill, enjoying the shade of the trees, the service led by their two pastors, and the music by Phil Crevier, Scott Switzer, and Jim Allyn.
For those not yet ready to gather with others, the church’s leaders arranged to stream the service live for those who wished to worship from home.
The church leaders are planning at least two outdoor services in June, and an equal number (if not more) for the summer months.

NCC Senior Pastor Matthew Crebbin welcomed members of the West Street church to an outdoor worship service last Sunday morning. The church will continue to stream services on Sundays, he reminded those gathered, and two outdoor services are planned for June.
NCC Minister of Youth and Mission Kristen Provost Switzer offered the morning’s scripture reading and sermon.
