LSU extended an offer on Monday to Bellefonte (Pa.) Westtown School center Dereck Lively II, one of the nation's top prospects in the 2022 class. Miami, Ohio State, Penn State, Providence, Temple and others have offered the 6-11, 200-pound big man.
According to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite, Lively ranks as a four-star prospect, coming in as the No. 40 overall prospect in the nation, No. 4 overall center in the country and No. 4 overall prospect in Pennsylvania. 247Sports ranks him as the No. 30 overall prospect in the nation.
One of the top overall prospects in America, Lively said he still needs to refine some things in his game as he continues to develop.
“I think I have been playing pretty well. There are things I need to fine tune about my game," Lively told 247Sports in December. "I have to be more patient when I get the ball on the post, I have to chin the ball whenever I get a rebound, but with this team they are so talented that my weaknesses don’t show as much, and I am able to show what I do well.
“I have been working on my shot. I have also been working on my ball handling, and just my post moves.”
For now, Lively is in no rush to make a choice, but he does know what one factor will be most important when that time does come. There's yet to be a 247Sports Crystal Ball pick made in his recruitment.
“I am just looking for a program that wins,” said Lively. “Winning is the most important thing for me in everything I do.”
LSU's 2021 class finished in the Top 5 on the 247Sports Composite Team Recruiting Rankings while the Tigers already have a 2021 commitment from four-star big man Jerrell Colbert, who committed earlier this spring.
