DES MOINES, Iowa (KCCI) - Protesters gathered outside the Des Moines Mayor’s House to address change following Floyd’s death.

The group presented a list of demands to Mayor Frank Cownie last night.

It included an anti-racial profiling ordinance, the immediate release of jailed protesters and an immediate end to the curfew.

The Mayor met with the group and promised to work on the demands.

They also want Governor Reynolds to pass an executive order on felon voting. Protesters say there’s still a lot to do.

"We have so far to go,” Matthew Bruce, protester, said. “We have to end, we have to turn that money towards rehabilitation, we have to start to take away lethal force. We have to start moving those resources back into housing, into health care, put that money into education and mental health. We have so much to do.”

"I want to thank you for this peaceful protest,” Des Moines Mayor Frank Cownie said. “I thank you guys out there. I hear your hearts. I hear your pain. I thank you for doing it in a peaceful way and let's continue that."

Mayor Cownie says the city council will take up the anti-racial profiling ordinance during its meeting next Monday night.
