Provincial police arrested a person from Lively after they allegedly sexually assaulted and threatened several people at a residence in Massey on Dec. 28.

Police said the incident occurred at an address on West Branch Road and officers responded at 1:55 p.m.  

“Police attended the location and arrested one individual,” a release states. “The investigation is ongoing with the Manitoulin OPP Crime Unit.”

A 29-year-old has been charged with two counts of sexually assaulting a person under the age of 16, two counts of sexual interference, three counts of forcible confinement, and assault with a weapon.

The accused was held for a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on Dec. 30.  

Police seeking info on break and enter 

Provincial police are seeking assistance locating those responsible for a break and enter that occurred at a cottage on Highway 546 north of Elliot Lake sometime between Dec. 6 and 27.  

Members of the East Algoma OPP were called to the location following a complaint on Monday.  

A press release said that the individual(s) responsible forced their way into the cottage and stole numerous items.  

Items include a Stihl MS Professional 362 orange chainsaw with an approximate value of $1000, a 1000-watt gas generator with a value of approximately $200, a Homelite gas pump with an approximate value of $350, a yellow 1960 antique chainsaw worth about $600, and numerous red five-gallon gas cans.

Anyone with information about the person(s) responsible for this incident is asked to contact provincial police at 1-888-310-1122 or their nearest police authority.

Complaint leads to arrest for stolen vehicle 

Provincial police arrested a Parry Sound driver for stealing a motor vehicle after conducting a traffic stop in Nairn-Hyman Township on Dec. 26.  

Members of the Manitoulin OPP received a traffic complaint regarding a vehicle not maintaining its lane and driving “varying speeds” on Highway 17 at about 10:05 p.m., according to a press release.  

“Officers were able to locate the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. Further investigation revealed the motor vehicle was stolen,” said the press release.  

Matthew Molnar, 30, was arrested and charged with two counts of operation while prohibited, obstructing a peace officer, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, careless driving, and driving while under suspension.  

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on Feb. 7, 2022.  

Driver charged with impaired on Christmas

A 34-year-old West Nipissing man faces impaired charges following a traffic stop on Christmas Day.

Members from the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police conducted a traffic stop on Front Street in Sturgeon Falls around 11:37 p.m. on Dec. 25.

The driver was found to be impaired by drugs and was arrested, according to OPP. He was then transported to Greater Sudbury Police Service for further testing.

The driver was charged with operation while impaired and failure to comply with a probation order.

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Feb. 3 in West Nipissing.

The accused was issued both a 90-day licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Wanted driver charged with impaired 

A wanted person was arrested and charged for impaired driving during a RIDE check conducted by provincial police on Industrial Road in Blind River on Boxing Day.  

At around 10 p.m., members of the East Algoma OPP spoke to the driver of a vehicle “whose breathe emanated a strong odour of alcoholic beverage,” said a press release.  

“An approved screening device was administered which resulted in a fail. In addition, the driver was wanted on previous charges and was a suspended driver,” said a press release.  

“As a result, the driver was arrested and the vehicle was towed and impounded.”  

Kody Nyman was arrested and charged with impaired over 80 mgs and driving while under suspension.  

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on Feb. 3.  

“The OPP remind motorists that no amount of alcohol or drug is acceptable to consume and drive,” the press release stated. “Report impaired drivers.”
