KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) - The Nebraska Farm Bureau held a forum to highlight the republican candidates for governor as a kick off to their annual meeting and convention.
It was held at the Younes Conference Center in Kearney, the forum brought out all six of the declared Republicans running for governor, which includes:
- Theresa Thibodeau
- Michael Connelly
- Charles Herbster
- Senator Brett Lindstrom
- Jim Pillen
- Breland Ridenour
Mark Mchargue, president of the Nebraska Farm Bureau, says it was important to bring the candidates together in this setting. Because, agriculture is such a big concern for so many Nebraskans.
“That’s why we told our members, we would like you to be here, we would like to get the candidates in front of you, because we believe the next governor of Nebraska will be one of the most influential elected leaders four or really eight years,” Mchargue said.
The candidates believe the state needs a strong leader going forward.
“The next governor of Nebraska needs to be bold, the next governor needs to have a sense of urgency, the next governor needs to realize that they report to the citizen, that they need to listen, that the citizens from all over our state need to have a seat at the table, and that you are listening to our citizens, about what their needs are and what they are facing every single day,” gubernatorial candidate Theresa Thibodeau said.
Each of the candidates were able to answer a wide range of questions, from agriculture, to immigration, to broadband access for rural communities.
The Republican Primary is set for May 10, 2022.
