PEORIA (Heart of Illinois ABC) - Disc golf is a popular sport in the River City, and Saturday - despite the snow - dozens of disc golfers gathered for a massive tournament at Laura Bradley Park.

The 21st annual Peoria Frisbee Club Ice Bowl is a fundraising tournament hosted by Plastic Addicts - a disc golf shop based in Pekin.

Around 140 players in teams of two showed up for the tournament, which raises money for the Midwest Food Bank and the City Church of Pekin.

“We host some of the biggest tournaments in the world. This is just a fun way to play in the snow and still have some fun in the winter time and give back to the community,” tournament director Johnnie Harrison said.

Professional disc golfers Nate Yemm and Garry Patton were partners, and Patton said they have been apart of the Frisbee Club for over a decade.

“Every round is different. And the discs- they all have different flights, so it’s similar to golf how you have different clubs, but you can manufacture your swing more in disc golf than you can in golf, so you can be very creative. It’s cool to watch that,” Patton said.

Harrison added they hoped to raise around $5000 Saturday, as well as hundreds of pounds of food for the Food Bank.
