PEORIA (Heart of Illinois ABC) - Hunters from across the area came together to celebrate their hobby this weekend, while getting a chance to pick up some new gear and see fellow hunter’s trophies in person.
The Illinois Deer Classic made its return to the Peoria Civic Center Saturday and Sunday. Over 150 exhibits were on display, covering everything from outfitters, to equipment, to accessories. Two separate seminar rooms were also reserved, where hunters could take the opportunity to learn a thing or two about their craft.
For organizers, it was a welcome return to normal after the event was postponed for the past two years.
“As you know, people are excited to get out and do some things because being shut down is no fun, and this is a chance to get out and enjoy the outdoors and think hunting,” says show producer John Bunge.
For those with a competitive side, there were also big buck and shed contests available to enter. Anyone who wanted to bring their finds could put them up on display to show off throughout the event.
“We’ve got some big deer here,” says Bunge with a chuckle. “People love looking at those.”
