Dallas Mavericks rookie Dereck Lively II left during the third quarter of a game against the Lakers Wednesday night after taking a hard fall. Lively went up for a basket on a pass from Luka Doncic and fell awkwardly on his back.
After staying on the floor for a moment, Lively was helped to the locker room by teammates while not putting weight on his left ankle. The Mavericks said in the fourth quarter that Lively would not return.
The rookie is averaging 8.6 points and 7.5 rebounds through 13 games and has been a key contributor to the Mavericks’ strong start to the season.
Mavs say Lively (lower back contusion) will not return.

Replays showed that when Lively went up for Doncic's alley-oop pass, Davis got underneath Lively, causing him to land awkwardly on his left ankle. https://t.co/p2V8shb5eI
