Any excuse to throw a party.
Fans came out in socially-distant droves to see off the Vegas Golden Knights and Carolina Hurricanes as they departed for Edmonton and Toronto, respectively, for Stanley Cup Qualifier play, which begins on Saturday.
In Vegas, cars were adorned with Golden Knights logos and balloons, pom poms and pennants were plentiful and there was an inflatable Chance mascot.
The players were appreciative, none more than defenseman Nate Schmidt, who said so in a thank you video.
All were packed and ready to go on Sunday. Defenseman Nick Holden made sure he packed only the most important stuff.
For some, goodbye was harder than others as William Karlsson had to leave his loyal puppy behind.
In Raleigh, Hamilton the Pig made an appearance.
So did a whole bunch of Hurricanes fans.
Safe to say while there will be no fans in the arena, there will be plenty watching at home.
