Mrs. Catherine L. Harper, age 96, of Meridian, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 23, 2020.

Catherine was born in Lanarkshire, Douglas Water, Scotland, United Kingdom on January 23, 1924. She met Mr. Henry Harper during World War II while he was stationed in Scotland. Love prevailed and the two married in Edinburgh, Scotland and had two sons. After the war, Catherine and the boys travelled to New York City on the Queen Mary and were reunited with Mr. Harper. She became Meridian’s first Scottish War Bride. After moving to Meridian, the Harper’s welcomed a third son and a daughter. The family lived at Key Field and were founding members of Key Field Baptist Church. Catherine retired from J.C. Penny after twenty-six years. She was an avid bowler, enjoyed seventeen years of water aerobics, enjoyed travelling on numerous church trips around the United States, and thoroughly enjoyed spoiling her grands and great-grands. She enjoyed singing, easily made friends with her radiant smile, and was an active member of the Baptist church. She was a wonderful mother, mother-in-law, aunt, Granny, cousin, and friend to many.

Catherine is survived by her children, Melvin L. “Butch” Harper (Linda), James “Jimmy” Harper (Trisha), Mary Ann Odom; five grandchildren, Sha Harper, Jason Harper (Jennifer), Jim Harper (Jill), Melanie Brantley (Travis), and Magan Reede (Tony); six great-grandchildren, Ava Brantley, Isabella Daw, Kennedy Laine Harper, Zoey Reede, Eden Harper, and Xander Reede; and her brother, Charlie Lively (Mary) of Scotland.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry M. Harper; her son, Roger B. Harper; her parents, Bernard and Mary Lively; and her siblings, Willie Lively, Jim Lively, and Elizabeth Gillespie.

Memorial contributions may be shared with Russell Baptist Church Senior Adult Ministry.
