Uma Thurman Was Once Cut From This Blake Lively Film | TheThings - TheThings

Blake Lively and Uma Thurman have had somewhat differing career trajectories, but their paths did cross on the set of at least one specific film. Unfortunately for fans, Uma ultimately got cut from the film.

So what movie almost had the dynamic duo of Blake and Uma, and what happened?

Unlike the drama with 'Kill Bill' director Quentin Tarantino, Uma's getting nixed from this film had nothing to do with who she got along with (or didn't) on set. As it turns out, the film she was due to appear in with Blake Lively was 'Savages.'

The 2012 movie was a crime thriller that chronicled the adventures of some creative business minds matched up against a cartel that "kidnapped their shared girlfriend," highlights IMDb.

Blake Lively was that girlfriend, and one of the lead characters, Ophelia or 'O.' The role that Uma was cast in and meant to play was as O's mom.

HuffPost recounts that the story originally came from a book, 'Savages' by Don Winslow. In the book, Ophelia's mom features heavily in the storyline.

But the movie's director, Oliver Stone, told HuffPost that as great as the book was, not everything translated well on-screen. For one thing, the story just ran too long when the crew aimed to include everything from the page-turner into the script.

So, while Uma had already acted in her scenes — and, Stone admitted, "played her beautifully" — the footage wound up on the cutting room floor. Uma was a good sport about the whole thing, said Stone, understanding that "frankly, because the mother never figured in the outcome, really."

Plus, Uma wasn't the only one nixed while Blake took the lead. Stone said that "several other characters" were also cut, but as E! Online reported, he also wrote in a part for a specific actor, even though that character wasn't in the book. Trevor Donovan — of '90210' fame — auditioned for a different role. But Oliver was such a fan that he created a part out of thin air.

It sounds like Uma could have taken the director's nixing her from the movie as a personal affront. But because Ophelia's mom wasn't an integral part of the plot, it probably made sense to the veteran actress.

Other big changes were also made in the film versus the book, as Oliver Stone elaborated in his interview with HuffPost. For one thing, Blake Lively was a bit older than the book character. Plus, Stone noted, Blake is like "a younger Grace Kelly, like a cool, elegant blonde," while the character in the book had a bit different nature.

At the same time, the role was a far cry from Lively's role as Serena van der Woodsen and really everything else in her early career. 'Gossip Girl' wrapped the same year that 'Savages' came out, and TBH, the movie probably shocked anyone who thought Blake would go on to keep playing high school girls who are mostly innocent.
