EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) - The Green Bay Packers are set to play Tampa Bay this Sunday in the NFC Championship game. It’s an event that would normally prompt large gatherings around the tv in your living room or at your favorite sports bar.

However, health officials are urging people not to let your guard down this weekend.

Dr. Jeff Pothof says these gatherings are perfect environments for the virus to spread.

He recommends doing similar style gatherings that many opted for during the holidays, such as zoom watch parties.

The UW Health Chief Quality Officer told WEAU, “It seems to be human nature that with all this good news I can kind of get back to normal things aren’t so bad like I can really enjoy myself this weekend and the unfortunate truth is we are not there yet. We still have a lot of COVID-19 in our communities people are still getting sick not everyone has been vaccinated ... what we don’t want to see is a bunch of Packer fans that get sick during this playoff game not able to see what’s sure to be a Packers Super Bowl this year.”

He says even small gatherings can pose great risk and should be avoided.
