Hundreds of migrants gather at Belarusian-Polish border crossing - The First News

A Polish security official has warned that the country is facing “the largest attempt” by migrants to cross into Poland from Belarus.

On Monday, the Belarusian website Nasha Niva posted on its Telegram channel video footage of what appeared to be hundreds of migrants walking along a road leading to the border.

Other recordings posted online show migrants gathering by a car park in front of the border crossing in Bruzgi on the Belarusian side of the border. Also visible in the clip are Belarusian armed personnel with dogs.

Stanislaw Zaryn, director of the National Security Department, described this as "very disturbing information from the border.”

“In Belarus, near the border with Poland, a large group of migrants has gathered,” he wrote on Twitter. “They have just started moving towards the border of the Republic of Poland. They will try to enter Poland en masse."

In a follow-up entry, he added that the group was dominated by young men. "The largest attempt to date to enter Poland by force has just begun," he said.

The GPK, the Belarusian border guard, said that "the Belarusian side is taking all necessary measures to ensure the smooth operation of international communication channels, as well as the safety of people who move along the route."

This is "a step of desperation by the migrants, due to the indifference and inhuman attitude of the Polish authorities," the GPK said.

Belarus has rejected accusations that it is organising the influx of migrants to its borders with EU countries. According to the official narrative of the Belarusian authorities, citizens of the Middle East countries who have flown to Belarus en masse in recent months and later illegally cross the border with the EU are "legally staying in the country".

Since the spring, the number of attempts to illegally cross the Belarusian border with Lithuania, Latvia and Poland by migrants from the Middle East, Africa and other regions has increased sharply.

Poland and the Baltic States have accused Belarus of orchestrating the migrant situation to destabilise the EU.

From the beginning of the year, the Border Guard recorded over 30,000 illegal attempts to cross the Polish-Belarusian border. From September 2, due to the migratory pressure in 183 localities in the Podlasie and Lubelskie provinces, adjacent to the border with Belarus, a state of emergency has been in force.
