Jewish residents eager to gather for Hanukkah as community has grown during the pandemic - Wyoming Public Media

Hanukkah started Sunday at sundown and is observed through Dec. 6. Jewish communities around the state are excited to gather with new and old members. Last year, many events had to be held outside or were canceled.

According to Rabbi Zalman Mendelsohn, several hundred new members joined Jewish communities in Jackson in the last year or so, as well as several hundred more in Laramie, Casper, and Cheyenne.

"The exciting thing is that there haven't been many opportunities for people to be able to join us due to the pandemic," said Mendelsohn. "And now, wonderfully Hanukkah is here, things have somewhat calmed down in our areas. And so we're once again opening up all of the celebrations of Hanukkah to the many people who have moved to the area."

This week, there will be Menorah lightings in Jackson, Laramie, and Cheyenne. The state capital lighting will be hosted by the governor, the first lady, and other elected officials. For details on events go to jewishwyoming.com/hanukkah.
