An impresisve new concept design shows off what Gossip Girl star Blake Lively could look like as Amber Heard’s Mera replacement for Aquaman 2.
Amber Heard stunned critics and comic book fans with her work as Mera, Arthur Curry’s love interest and confidant in James Wan’s Aquaman. With the film a runaway critical and commercial success, it was no surprise when a sequel was announced with Jason Momoa set to return as the titular DC Comics hero. Currently set to hit cinemas in the winter of 2022, Heard or Warner Bros. haven’t officially announced that the starlet will be back as Mera. While she is expected to reprise her role in the sequel, it’s always fun to imagine who could replace her should the actress decide to part ways with the DC Extended Universe. Luckily for us, Instagram user “spdrmnkyxxiii” has the perfect replacement for Heard in mind: Blake Lively.
Best known for starring in Gossip Girl, Blake Lively is the perfect choice to replace Amber Heard as Mera for the highly-anticipated Aquaman sequel. In the artwork, Lively can be seen wearing Amber Heard’s Mera costume from the first Aquaman movie. You can see Lively as Mera in the fan edit below.
The concept design does a fantastic job of showing just how easily Blake Lively could slip into the role of Mera. In fact, we wouldn’t be surprised if she was originally in the running to play the Aquaman character before Amber Heard landed the role. Currently, there’s no news to indicate that Lively will be taking on the role of Mera but should Warner Bros. and DC need a replacement, they know who to call.
