Ryan Reynolds Reveals Blake Lively Wrote Some Of His Deadpool Jokes - Screen Rant

Ryan Reynolds revealed that his wife Blake Lively wrote some of his jokes for Deadpool. After the iconic hero received a large amount of backlash from fans after the Deadpool adaptation in X-Men Origins: Wolverine in 2009, Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick worked with Reynolds to redeem the character. While distributor, 20th Century Fox, was initially very hesitant to bring the R-rated superhero material to the silver screen, director Tim Miller (Terminator: Dark Fate) and Reynolds' leaked test footage received such large praise from fans that Fox greenlit the film. The story follows Wade Wilson (Reynolds) as he goes on a mission to find the man who gave him mutant abilities that also scarred his physical appearance forever.

Lively starred in The Sisterhood f the Traveling Pants films, although she truly stepped into the spotlight with her performance as Serena van der Woodsen in Gossip Girl. In more recent years, she's been cast in films including The Age of Adaline, The ShallowsA Simple Favor, and The Rhythm Section. Lively and Reynolds met in 2010 while working on Green Lantern together, and the couple got married on September 9, 2012 in South Carolina.

In an interview on Sirius XM's Town Hall (via EW), Reynolds talked about the writing in his movies. He mentioned that he writes on a bunch of his films and Lively has directly written some brilliant stuff for him, including Deadpool jokes. Reynolds pointed to the sexism of Hollywood, as she was never given credit, even when he explicitly said that she wrote something. See below to read his full statement:

"I write on a lot of my movies. It's been a survival mechanism for me for a long time. Sometimes I'm credited, sometimes I'm not… There's a lot of A++ writing that I've done that was actually Blake — that Blake would jump in, grab the keyboard, and 'What about this?' And I'd be like, 'That's incredible.'"

"And you know, it's funny. I don't know. Maybe it's 'cause there's inherent sexism in the business — I will say that a lot of times, 'She wrote that — Blake like, wrote that not me. That was was her.' And it's like, they still, later on, repeat the story as I wrote it."

"So she's a really talented, multihyphenate kind of person in this, you know, weird burgoo [editor's note: stew] of an entertainment industry that we work in, and she's helped me so much — in Deadpool, all kinds of movies that have been big successes. She's always got a lot of bricks in that wall."

Reynolds and Lively are constantly referred to as having the relationship that many people aspire to have. They poke fun at each other publicly on social media and over the course of interviews in a way that is absolutely hilarious. While they tease each other plenty, they also clearly display love and support through interviews like this one. Even if Lively isn't able to get credit from the industry itself, at least Reynolds is giving her verbal credit for the world to know the help that she provided on some of her husband's films.

There's no denying that sexism has been a problem across Hollywood since its inception. While improvements have been made over the years, there's still a lot of progress to be made. Reynolds and Lively are certainly a star couple with a lot of talent. It's great to see them support each other with their work, even if they aren't always starring in each other's projects. Audiences will have to wait and see if she also helped on writing any of the material for Deadpool 3 when that gets further along.
