STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Nine female Republican candidates running for office across New York City gathered for a breakfast roundtable discussion on Sunday at Staten Island’s GOP headquarters in New Dorp.

The working breakfast meeting was hosted by Patricia Rondinelli, who is running for the North Shore’s City Council seat (49th district), according to a press release from Rondinelli’s office.

Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-Staten Island/Brooklyn) joined the female candidates running for City Council seats, as well as the Republican candidate for public advocate.

“I may be the only Republican women in New York City elected to city, state or federal office but I know, that come November, that will no longer be the case,” said Malliotakis. “Republican women are running throughout the country, motivated to be counter voices to the radical socialist squad. Locally, we have many qualified women running to flip Democrat-held council districts I won when I ran for Mayor. We know that one party rule has destroyed quality of life and these are women who support law enforcement, respect taxpayers and have solutions to fix our city post-de Blasio. The more we elect, the better off New York will be.”

Anthony Reinhart, chairman of the Staten Island Republican Party, said they were “excited to be able to meet, greet and get to know these terrific candidates.”

“The enthusiasm is palpable, and these individuals are ready to roll up their sleeves and fight — and Congresswoman Malliotakis will be here to show us how it’s done,” said Reinhart in the press release.

When asked about the chances of victory for herself and the other female candidates, Rondinelli said she doesn’t pay attention to odds, polls, or historical results.

Since the district was drawn in the early 1990s, the seat has always been held by a Democrat. Rondinelli will face Kamillah Hanks in the general election in November, who came out on top in the Democratic primary for the North Shore City Council seat.

“I don’t care what the past results in this district have been,” Rondinelli said in the press release. “This is a new year, a new election, and there is no incumbent. As far as I’m concerned – anything goes.”

In addition to Rondinelli, here were the other participating candidates at the breakfast roundtable:

  • Dr. Devi Nampiaparampil, running for public advocate, is an associate professor at NYU Grossman School of Medicine.
  • Vanessa Simon, running in Queens City Council District 3, is a human resources business partner at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
  • Vickie Paladino, running in Queens City Council District 19, has been a resident of this district for 66 years, a small business owner, mother, and community activist.
  • Felicia Kalan, running in Queens City Council District 22, has been a legislative aide and social entrepreneur. She is now a freelance consultant for women-led start-up companies and women seeking high-level positions.
  • Inna Vernikov, running in Brooklyn City Council District 48, is a small business owner and a practicing lawyer, as well as a board member and Women’s Committee Chair for Americans Against Antisemitism and a Chair at Legion Self Defense, an organization providing self-defense and active shooter training.
  • Jackie Toboroff, running for Manhattan City Council District 1, is a life-long New Yorker who attended NYU and Parsons where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. As a single mother, she vows to fight for a safer and revitalized city.
  • Nancy Sliwa Esq., running in Manhattan City Council District 6, is a life-long animal rights activist and has long been involved in her community on the Upper West Side. She is an attorney who has worked to help those less fortunate and has been a member of the Guardian Angels.
  • Joann Ariola, running in Queens City Council District 32, is a civic leader, wife, mother, and grandmother who is president of the Howard Beach Lindenwood Civic Association and member of Community Board 10. She was named an honoree for Power Women of the year by City and State.
