ATLANTA — 58 years after the march on Washington, tens of thousands gathered, or will be gathering throughout the country to commemorate the event.
In Atlanta, hundreds gathered in Northeast Atlanta at the King Center to march, bring awareness and protect voting rights for everyone.

Channel 2 Action News reporter Kristen Holloway spoke to several participants including Andi Pringle. Pringle is the political and strategic campaign director for “March On”.
She helped organize Saturday morning’s event in Atlanta and she told Holloway the people participating are taking to the streets with the intent of reminding Congress about two bills they want passed.
“The For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act which protects voters and elections are both needed,“ Pringle said. “We want everyone to let their elected officials know this is an important piece of legislation that we need to get passed. We’re here to say hey, we want equal access to the ballot. We’re not going back to Jim Crow days and we want to be heard.”

Celine Lucco told Holloway it was important for her to march today so she can do her part and help try creating a better future for her kids and her grandkids.
“Our democracy is in trouble. If we lose people’s right to choose our leaders we’re no longer a democracy,” Lucco said. “And it scares me, it scares me for my kids, it scares me for the next generation.”
The day of events concluded with metro Atlanta resident “Ludacris” performing at the King Center for those who participated in the march.
