The lively sounds of Jarabe Mexicano will join the visual excitement of Ballet Folklórico de Los Ángeles in "Cruzando Fronteras (Border Crossings)" at the Bankhead Theater at 7 p.m. this Sunday.

The two Southern California-based groups will take audiences on a joyride through a mix of authentic Mexican folk, Latin rock and Tex-Mex songs in this first event to be sponsored by the Kenison Fund, founded to expand the diversity of entertainment offered by Livermore Valley Performing Arts Center. To encourage families to attend, a special discounted package offers two adult and two student tickets for $120; use the code "4FAMILY."

The Kenison Fund was initiated in 2017 as part of the Producer's Circle and renamed in early 2020 for former executive director Scott Kenison to honor his achievements broadening the scope of the organization's events.

Also this season, the Kenison Fund will sponsor a holiday show, "Joy to the World," on Dec. 5, featuring young composer and band leader Damien Sneed; and "Piaf! The Show," a celebration of the life and music of the famed 1940s French chanteuse on Feb. 14.

The Kenison Fund is made up of designated gifts of $5,000 or more to help minimize the financial impact of more artistically adventurous choices, according to current Executive Director Chris Carter.

"We strive to bring a diverse range of shows to our stage, and the Kenison Fund allows us to consider shows we might not otherwise be able to due to high artist fees, staging or marketing expenses," Carter said. "Underwriting these three shows is particularly meaningful since Scott was instrumental in their choice before his retirement."

Livermore Arts has seen strong sales for the upcoming "Bankhead Presents 2021-2022 Season," with the two July performances selling out, plus there has been a notable increase in membership since the Bankhead Theater reopened for films in May.

Tickets for "Cruzando Fronteras" are $20-$95. Visit LivermoreArts.org or call 373-6800. The Bankhead Theater is located at 2400 First St. in Livermore.
