In this day and age, the vast majority of stars have decided that one of the best ways to ensure that their fans stay loyal to them is to grant them a great deal of access. While there are a lot of ways to bring fans into their world, including “reality” shows and podcasts, many celebrities have spent years on end posting details of their private life on social media.
Of course, some celebrities clearly have a much better handle on what fans want to see on social media than others. For example, people like Anna Kendrick, James Blunt, and Kristen Bell have seemingly mastered the art of Twitter. On top of those folks, many fans adore following Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds on social media, largely because their relationship is so adorable and entertaining from afar.
While it is clear to virtually everyone that Blake Lively’s fans hold her in high regard these days, there was a time in which the actor worried about the public’s perception of her. In fact, at one point Lively made it very clear that she was concerned about what her fans thought about her due to her most famous role at that time.
A Stand Out Actor
Obviously among the most attractive people in Hollywood, Blake Lively works hard on her looks which helped her to stand out very early in her career. However, after Lively landed one of the starring roles in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, it seemed very clear that she is very talented and seemed poised for very big things in the business.
After appearing in the movie Accepted, Blake Lively was offered the star-making role as Gossip Girl’s Serena van der Woodsen. Amazingly enough, Blake initially turned the role down until producers convinced her to sign on to the show and the rest is television history.
On top of Blake Lively’s years starring in Gossip Girl, she has appeared in several major movies. For example, during the early-2010s, Lively appeared on the big screen in movies like The Town, Green Lantern, and Savages among others. In recent years, it could easily be argued that Lively is doing her best work as she was great in films like The Shallows and A Simple Favor.
Taking The Business World By Storm
In the past, actors tended to solely focus on their careers in front of the cameras. These days, however, many actors have proven that the same drive that made them stars could take them to the top of the business world as well. For example, in 2015 Blake Lively became an entrepreneur when she launched Preserve, her “lifestyle site and e-boutique featuring artisan-crafted style, beauty, food, and décor”.
On top of running her own business, Blake Lively has proven to be very adept at signing lucrative deals with a long list of major companies. For example, in the past she served as Chanel’s ambassador, she represented Stella McCartney’s clothing line, she endorsed a Gucci perfume, she was the face of L’Oreal, and so much more. Lively also has a charitable side as she developed a flavor that Sprinkles Cupcakes sold in order to raise money for Oxfam and she worked with Baby2Baby, an organization that helps kids in need.
Unfortunate Feelings
Just like virtually all celebrities, Blake Lively has spent hours on end being interviewed by one outlet or another. Amazingly enough, she almost always seems to be genuinely happy to be fielding questions even though lots of stars have admitted that the media train can be exhausting. Given her seemingly joyous nature, some observers may have expected Lively to have a very positive take on her Gossip Girl role. While she seems to be very thankful for the opportunities that show afforded her, Lively has been frank about the negatives that came along with playing Serena van der Woodsen.
During an interview with Allure, Blake Lively revealed that at times, she felt like starring in Gossip Girl reflected poorly on her and gave fans the wrong impression of her. "It's a weird thing when people feel like they know you really well, and they don't," Lively said. "I would not be proud to be the person who gave someone the cocaine that made them overdose and then shot someone and slept with someone else's boyfriend."
"People loved it, but it always felt a little personally compromising—you want to be putting a better message out there," she said. "The lines become blurred…It doesn't help when everybody is dating who they're dating on the show, and you're also saying to the costume designer, 'Hey, can I take that home?'"
