Nipissing West OPP officers charged a driver from Lively with impaired after responding to a report of an assault on Maani Street in Atikameksheng First Nation on Sept. 23.
At about 5:05 a.m., police officers arrived on the scene and an investigation revealed that two people were driving to the First Nation when an argument ensued.
The passenger allegedly did not like how the driver was operating the vehicle. The driver continued to drive erratically until the vehicle skidded across the road and came to a sudden stop.
Both parties subsequently engaged in a fist fight on the side of the road.
Further investigation revealed that the driver had consumed alcohol.
Brent Webb, 32, was charged with operation while impaired, having a blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus, operation while prohibited, and driving while under suspension.
The accused was issued a 90-day license suspension and the vehicle was impounded for 45 days. This marks the 47th driver charged under criminal impaired driving laws in the Nipissing West detachment area in 2020.
The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
