COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. – Women from around Collier County gathered for several hours out in the hot sun today and very few were wearing masks to greet members of the President’s team.
Then, a big pink Trump bus pulled into Naples from Miami.
As the group of women shouted “four more years” lining Airport Road South, people drove by honking their horns to show support as about 200 women gathered holding signs and decked out in Trump garb and even driving a Trump car.
“The movement is pretty extreme. The women for Trump has always been very popular,” Collier Republican Committeewoman JoAnne DeBartolo said.
During the rally, one man trying to get through the crowd in his car pushed his way through, ordering people to move and claimed he had to get to work.
Republican Congressional candidate Byron Donalds was among only a handful of men attending.
“I think if you look at the other side with Joe Biden. I mean he’s getting about what seven or eight people in a room? Those things truly matter when it comes to elections,” Donalds said.
Biden’s team opting for social distancing something that wasn’t seen at the Naples event.
In fact, one thing widely missing was masks, and that is something the President’s inner circle is okay with.
“Well, I actually have a mask on me. We always encourage people to follow those CDC guidelines to make sure they’re safely outside. We’re having this as an outdoor event,” Erin Petrine, Director of Press Communication, said.
Despite that, an overwhelming majority of attendees chose not to wear them.
“I think Americans know best what they need to do to take the necessary precautions obviously if you have the symptoms not showing up,” Mercedes Schlapp, a lobbyist & Trump supporter, said.
The team is also not concerned about the fact more Democrats than Republicans are requesting mail ballots in Florida.
“More Democrats are going to vote by mail as opposed to Republicans who like to vote early and they like to vote in person,” Schlapp said.
With that, the bus left for Fort Myers to continue its tour across the state.
