More than a hundred people gathered in Studio City for a pro-Trump car parade and rally, protesting against coronavirus-related restrictions in Los Angeles County, and calling on local leaders to reopen schools and the larger economy.

“It doesn’t matter your background,” organizer Julie Haff said in an interview on Sunday. “People want to come together. They want to open the economy back up. They want schools to open back up. … If you can walk around a Walmart and a casino, why shouldn’t you send your kids to school? Why can’t you go to church? This is ridiculous.”
Haff accused local leaders of “overpolicing” the public when it came to coronavirus-related mandates. She referenced Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti’s move to shut off water and power in party houses, comparing the move to “a communist regime. It doesn’t stand for freedom.”
Trump flags were flying at the parade’s start, attached to the back of pickup trucks and others participating in the rally.
“We want people to be aware that we’re supporting America and we’re definitely pro-police,” Haff said, acknowledging the shooting of two Sheriff’s deputies on Saturday night, calling it a tragedy. The rally was planned long before the shooting, she said.
At a similar demonstration last week, the protesters were confronted by counter-protesters who threw beer bottles and other projectiles. One man was arrested for allegedly brandishing a weapon.
