Protesters gather outside RLI headquarters in wake of alleged data breach - HOI ABC

PEORIA (HOI) -- The Peoria headquarters of insurance company RLI Corp. saw protesters for the second straight week, demanding action after sensitive information of immigrants was allegedly leaked in a data breach.

Annese Jackson from the American's Resisting Minority and Ethnic Discrimination said the company allegedly released login credintials.

She said those credentials provide access to things like contact information and medical histories of immigrants -- putting thousands of people at risk.

"It's beyond just the social security number breach because they're getting the information of asylum seekers and so if those asylum seekers get sent back to the country they came from then their lives are in jeopardy," she said.

She also alleges that this is a legal battle between two companies -- RLI as well as Libre by Nexus.

Libre by Nexus is a company that helps undocumented immigrants pay their immigration bonds and helps them adjust to life outside of immigration jail.

Jackson said Libre by Nexus was forced by a court order to provide RLI Insurance with login credentials of customers’ databases -- which RLI recklessly or intentionally exposed tens of thousands of immigrants to harm by publishing those login credentials.

We reached out to RLI for comment and the company said they cannot comment on pending litigation.
