Crowds flock to the state Capitol on Saturday, May 2, for a protest against Gov. Kate Brown's stay-at-home order.
Horns resounded throughout downtown Salem on Saturday, May 2, as hundreds of protesters gathered in Oregon's capital city to protest the statewide quarantine.
The "Reopen Oregon" rally was expected to kick off at noon, and the rainy weather was no deterrent for hundreds of demonstrators, some wearing masks, but most not maintaining the 6 feet of distance recommended by state officials. A few protesters were observed openly carrying weapons.
Oregon Gov. Kate Brown and public health authorities say the stay-at-home order currently in effect is necessary to slow the spread of COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus that has sickened thousands and killed over a hundred Oregonians so far.
