They left every other row or pew open and children's church and a nursery were not offered. Families were allowed to sit together but, otherwise, seating was staggered with at least two seats or more between attendees.

Many at Spring Creek wore masks, including the church's senior pastor, the Rev. Ron McCaslin, and church staff. Hand sanitizer was strategically placed throughout both church buildings and people refrained from shaking hands and generally avoided contact with other churchgoers.

McCaslin's assistant Anita Harris was among the staff members who welcomed people to the church, 1600 E 15th Street. She said the time between the two worship services was modified to allow staff to clean and disinfect between the gatherings.

A renovation at the church included new carpet, chairs, lighting and audio-visual equipment, but Dorothy and Michael Forth said what drew them to the building was the opportunity to worship together with fellow church members.

"We really missed church — we really miss seeing the people. We've been watching online and doing Zoom online for Sunday school and our small group, but you just can't beat seeing people in person," Dorothy Forth said.

Jessica Brauser said she is an "extreme extrovert" so she was happy when she could come back to church.

"I couldn't wait. This is where I get my fellowship. I have friends, mostly a close-knit bunch, but this is my family," she said.

Richard Bond said he was visiting an adjacent restaurant and was unsure of the church's reopening date. He decided to explore the matter further when he saw cars parked in front of the building.
