The Dallas Mavericks could get one of their starters back in the lineup for Monday’s Christmas Day matchup against the Phoenix Suns.
Rookie center Dereck Lively II, who has missed the last four games with a left ankle sprain, has been upgraded to questionable. Kyrie Irving (right heel contusion), Josh Green (right elbow sprain) and Maxi Kleber (right small toe dislocation) have all been ruled out for Monday’s game. Irving hasn’t played
On the Suns’ side, center Jusuf Nurkic has been ruled out for personal reasons. The Suns will also be without Bradley Beal, their big offseason acquisition.
Lively hasn’t played since going down with the ankle injury early in a Dec. 16 win over the Portland Trail Blazers.
The rookie center has become a vital piece of the Mavericks’ rotation, starting 22 of the 23 games he’s played in. He’s averaging 8.9 points, 7.7 rebounds and 1.6 blocks while shooting 73.4% from the floor.
Irving, who will miss his ninth straight game since suffering a heel contusion on Dec. 8, appears to be nearing a return. He has been seen getting some shots up before Friday’s win over the Spurs.
