The Mavericks made for a productive off day in Memphis on Sunday prior to their Monday game against the Grizzlies.
Dwight Powell, Maxi Kleber, Dereck Lively, Dante Exum and a handful of other Mavericks spent Sunday at St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis visiting with patients and their families. The Mavericks’ Instagram account shared photos of several Mavs with cancer survivor Pepe, who was treated at St. Jude after being diagnosed with neuroblastoma.
St. Jude’s is a specialty research hospital that works toward “cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of our founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family’s ability to pay,” according to their mission statement.
“Yesterday, we stopped by @stjude in Memphis to visit with the patients and their families, play games and learn more about what the hospital does for families around the world. Thank you, St. Jude,” the Mavs’ Instagram post reads.
The Mavericks are in Memphis after posting a win over the Trail Blazers in Portland on Friday night. They play the Grizzlies on Monday night at FedExForum.
Per an email from a St. Jude’s representative: “It’s because of support from players like Dante Exum and Dereck Lively that St. Jude can continue its commitment to advancing treatments and cures for life-threatening pediatric diseases and the promise that no family will ever receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing, or food so they can focus on helping their child live.”
