Whether you’re a part of Michigan’s billion-dollar-plus cannabis industry or interested in joining it, CannaCon marijuana business expo organizers say this weekend’s event in Detroit is the place to be.
CannaCon Midwest Detroit, which doesn’t include marijuana freebies, smoking or ingestion on site, is being held at the TCF Center, formerly Cobo Center, at 1 Washington Blvd. in downtown Detroit from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, June 25 and Saturday, June 26.
The gathering will feature more than 20 seminars and 220 exhibitors.
The trade show is followed by an official after-party dubbed the Celebration Soiree at Trust Nightclub, 205 W. Congress, in Detroit’s Financial District from 8 p.m. to midnight Friday, June 25.
Presale tickets to the trade show with various access options spanning from one-day expo access to weekend-long expo and seminar access, range from $40 to $175, with prices increasing if purchased at the door on the day of the event. More pricing details are available here. Afterparty tickets cost $25 and include two free drinks.
CannaCon is marketed as a trade expo featuring many national and Michigan companies that support or are directly participating in the cannabis industry, including marijuana-focused law firms, financial service providers, security companies, facility designers, commercial processing and grow facility machinery manufacturers, systems and grow facility consulting and even at least one exterminator.
“Join us in Detroit to network with like-minded entrepreneurs who are building a bold, new industry,” the CannaCon website says. “Attend CannaCon for all of your cannabis business needs. From seed to seed money. CannaCon is a one-stop shop, from cultivation supplies, the newest industry innovations, world class genetics, business and legal advice, retail displays, extraction technology, scientific and financial trends, marketing, branding and so much more.”
The after-party is being hosted by Sensi Connects and Sensi Magazine, a networking and cannabis industry media company. Jamie Cooper, the managing director of Sensi Connects, has attended each of the annual Detroit CannaCon events, minus the 2020 expo that was canceled due to the coronavirus, since they began in 2018.
Cooper said it’s a great place to gather information during the seminars or while perusing the business vendors and networking with other attendees. She expects some of those same opportunities to extend to Friday’s after party, which she is helping to plan.
“The timing of this could not be better,” Cooper said. “With us coming out of COVID, I think we’re all eager to connect with each other again.”
The Michigan Marijuana Agency licensed its first event allowing public marijuana consumption and giveaways sponsored by Pinnacle Emporium in Addison on May 29. Others are expected this summer.
For each of the last two months, Michigan recreational marijuana sales have surpassed $100 million in sales, putting the market on pace to eclipse $1.2 billion in sales over the next year. Those figures don’t include medical marijuana sales, currently on pace to reach $500 million over the next year.
