"Being able to harvest around 12 tons of strawberries a day in mid-June without having to worry about placing them is a true victory. In just a few months, the Matera® brand has managed to get noticed on both the general markets and domestic big retail chains and orders are not diminishing despite the availability of summer fruit. Unfortunately, however, the campaign is about to end and we think commercialization will finish by the end of the month," reported Nicofruit production manager Demetrio Nicodemo.
"Prices remained high in June as well, with peaks of €5.50/kg over the weekend. Strawberries boast exceptional organoleptic qualities - Brix levels above 10° and a shelf-life of over a week. The weather is helping, as it has not been incredibly hot yet. Days have been mostly ventilated and temperatures have been cool, meaning the produce is nice and healthy. The African anticyclone should intensify over the next few days, so harvesting operations in greenhouses should end in a week's time, while open field operations will continue throughout June."

"30 of our 46 hectares are currently producing strawberries. We have had to abandon the remaining fields due to the lack of labor. We currently have 120 workers carrying out harvesting operations. The number of workers available usually drops around early May as people tend to opt for other jobs."
"As for the next season, 80% of our orchards will be dedicated to a single variety (Inspire) sold under the Matera brand. In addition, we will add another 4 hectares and set up a one-hectare soilless crop."
