This is the second day of summer. These are the days we dream of in January. Also in February, March and maybe April, and November and December.
Down in Florida, you probably have forgotten all about snow and ice since you moved down there. But I know you and Nancy will be coming up this way this summer. You will have to check out your grandchildren in Grand Forks.
Maybe we could have coffee and cookies down by my lift station at 15th Avenue South, and Belmont Road. Or better still over in Lincoln Park. That place is so inviting in these nice days. I guess we have forgive the Red River for washing away all those homes over there during the flood in 1997.
You know there is a great, shady picnic area over there. Room for running. Room for dogs – large and small. The swimming pools are open here now and in East Grand Forks, There’s fishing on the Red River. Yes, and boating and water skiing. All the things we dream of in January. Also February, March, April and May.
Off to Bemidji
You probably know this is Election Day in Grand Forks for school issues. Sometimes I think everybody in Grand Forks has gone to Bemidji the day after school is out. But then I see plenty of people downtown at the farmers market on Saturday mornings in summer. And I notice the Sertoma Club is stirring and talking about the Fourth of July. That club digs in and works on arranging a jolly parade downtown and lights flying high in the sky in the evening,
Summer is really lively in Grand Forks. There’s the little Red Riding Bus with books for children to read. It’s really amazing – with all the activities offered through the park district in Grand Forks. And one of these nights I just have to get over and watch our summer ball team – the Whiskey Jacks.
Wearing masks
Life seems so much better now than it did a year ago. Most people by now have had COVID-19 vaccinations. I keep a mask with me, but there doesn’t seem to be as much need to wear them all the time and everywhere.
You made a drive last year out to Medora to shoot photos of the Bully Pulpit golf course, didn’t you? That part o North Dakota is packed with sheer beauty. I had a chance to ride out there with friends. A group of Grand Forksers went out to see the show in the Badlands. And to see Tom Brosseau of Grand Forks as he offers music in song around the heart of Medora.
We also drove through Theodore Roosevelt National Park. It’s really a rich experience to drove through this park and try to believe you are in North Dakota.
Rhubarb is ready
Well, I send best wishes. And I think you will like the weather around here. The rhubarb will be ready and waiting. And the peonies may stay in bloom.
