ELKINS — Twenty-nine “nifty after 50” Purple Majesties ladies recently gathered for the first time since February 2020 to enjoy a fun time at Graceland Inn on the Davis & Elkins College campus.
There was much enthusiasm and happiness as the ladies had an opportunity to finally meet, greet and eat in over a year. The ladies send a big thank you to Charlotte Thomas, Gerri Rosencrance and BJ McKenzie for planning the event,
After a short business meeting, members prayed The Lord’s Prayer and Chef Melanie Campbell and staff served a wonderful luncheon consisting of strawberry soup, chicken salad croissants and assorted fruits, followed by a delicious berry pie with ice cream for dessert.
The traditional warning was led by Texie Mallow. June birthdays were announced and members serenaded members Sharon Daniels and Phyllis Carr on their kazoos. Special birthday wishes were extended to all members who missed their serenade due to meetings being put on hold during their birthday months.
Members played a word search game about different kinds of flowers and the lucky winner was Faith Moore. Prize tickets were drawn and three lucky ladies won a beautiful hanging plant.
The next Purple Majesties luncheon will be Monday, July 12 at Adaland Mansion. Members can look forward to a delicious menu which includes roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, tossed salad, beverages and rolls; as well as an assortment of cakes, pies and pudding.
If you would like to join this fun-loving “nifty after 50” group or make a reservation for the July luncheon, please call Queen Mother B.J. McKenzie at 304-614-3079. Reservations must be made on or before July 2. If a reservation is made and not canceled before the July 2 deadline, you will still be responsible for payment of that meal.
