Chicago area Muslims gather for Eid al-Adha prayer - Chicago Daily Herald

Millions of Muslims around the world gathered Tuesday morning for their annual Eid Al-Adha prayers. More than 200 gathering and prayers services were held across the Chicago area on July 20.

Large gatherings were allowed in Chicago with restrictions imposed. Three or more back-to-back prayer services were held in the several Islamic Centers across Chicago and the suburbs. The locations were posted on the website and social media page.

Chicago physicians had urged unvaccinated people to exercise restraint and adhere to health protocols because many countries battle the Delta COVID-19 variant.

Last year, Muslims in the Chicago area observed Eid prayers without any hugging or shaking hands. But this year they allowed hugging or shaking hands only for those who are vaccinated.

Many places still asked worshippers to bring their own prayer mats to perform prayers.

Many prayers were observed outdoors in most masjid, but indoor congregations met in various locations as well.

The biggest mass Eid al-Adha Prayer program at 10 a.m. at SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview saw hundreds of congregants joining in worship.

The Islamic Center of Naperville, Masjid Al-Huda in Schaumburg, Islamic Foundation in Villa Park, Islamic Foundation North in Libertyville, Muslim Community Center in Morton Grove, and several others offered multiple and open-air prayers.

Many of the worshippers were happy about the arrangement of prayers. Many of them said, "We are happy because we have compared to this last year privilege opportunity for many of them to came back to the mosque to perform our religious ceremony."
