The City of Greater Sudbury is seeking residents to join the Lively recreation advisory panel.
Residents interested in helping to shape the future of recreation in Walden are asked to apply to the panel no later than 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 6.
The creation of the panel is the first step in the community engagement process following the closure of Meatbird Lake Park. The $4 million received from the sale of the land will be invested into recreational amenities in the Walden area.
Members of the panel will be asked to provide insight on how well existing community assets are contributing to quality of life and how that $4 million might best be re-invested to contribute to the future recreation needs of the Walden community. The panel will work with city staff to present recommendations to city council for consideration.
In accordance with the terms of reference adopted by council, the panel will include:
– two Lively residents who are youth (12-18 years of age);
– one Lively resident who is a parent/guardian (children under 18);
– one Lively resident who is an older adult;
– two community members from any part of Greater Sudbury;
– one member of an active Lively area neighbourhood association or community group;
– Ward 2 Coun. Michael Vagnini; and
– two city staff — one from communications and one from leisure services
Applications can be downloaded from and submitted to overtoyou.greatersudbury.ca. They are also available for pick-up and drop-off at the Lively library and citizen service centre. You may also submit by email to communications@greatersudbury.ca.

Nickel Belt MP Marc Serré has announced that $10 million in top-up funding is available through the Local Food Infrastructure Fund.
“Applications are currently being accepted for projects that are directly related to addressing food insecurity and increasing the accessibility of healthy, nutritious and ideally local foods within the community,” a release said.
Depending on funding availability, applications will be accepted until August 13, 2021.
Eligible applicants are not-for-profit organizations that have been in operation for at least two years or Indigenous groups.
The additional $10 million is part of the federal government’s commitment to provide continued support to emergency hunger relief organizations who have faced significant challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic, such as higher demands and fewer resources.
